Former Toronto Maple Leafs forward Pete Conacher passed away today the team announced via X.

Conacher played in the original-six era primarily for the Chicago Blackhawks. He appeared in 229 career games, putting up 47 goals and 39 assists for 86 points. Towards the end of his career he moved to the New York Rangers, where he got into 93 games. After that though he joined the Toronto Maple Leafs for the 1957-58 season, following in his dad's footsteps. Pete's father Charlie was a regular for the Leafs for nearly a decade, appearing in 328 career games with the club between 1929 and 1938. Charlie found the score sheet a little more often than his son though, potting 224 goals and 396 points across 461 career games.

Pete also played an important role in Canadian sports after his career in the NHL was over. He served as President of the Ontario Chapter of the Special Olympics Canada.

It has been an eventful season already for the Leafs, who are 3-2-0, good for fourth place in the Atlantic division behind the Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins, and Tampa Bay Lightning. There has already been a lot of drama surrounding the team, including Max Pacioretty making the team off his PTO. More recently, the team has been involved in rumors of a roster shake up. Specifically, the Leafs have reportedly been shopping defenseman Timothy Liljegren.

We are still waiting to see how Liljegren's trade drama will play out, which at this point, is arguably the largest story surrounding the team. Meanwhile, Leafs fans can take this moment to appreciate their favorite players past and present, as long as they are still with us. May Pete Conacher rest in peace.
