According to TSN's Darren Dreger, former New York Islanders head coach Lane Lambert may join the Toronto Maple Leafs on Craig Berube's staff. He didn't specify what Lambert's role would be, but it's a safe bet it'll either be as an assistant or associate coach.
Lambert, 59, spent parts of the last two seasons as a head coach with the New York Islanders before being fired in January and replaced by Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Roy. He began his NHL coaching career in 2011 with the Nashville Predators, before moving on to the Washington Capitals, where he won a Stanley Cup, and then the New York Islanders.
During his time as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals and New York Islanders, Lambert worked with the forwards and had a lot of talent with the former rather than the latter. If he does come to the Maple Leafs and accepts a similar role working with their forward group, he'll have plenty of talent as well with Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner, among others.
It's unclear when this move could be made official by the Toronto Maple Leafs, but it's likely it'll occur before the NHL Entry Draft later this month, so keep your eyes peeled for an official announcement.
