Newly minted Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews called out teammate Matthew Knies for lying to the media.

The Toronto Maple Leafs named Auston Matthews their new captain earlier this summer and while fans and media alike have experienced little snippets of the superstar, what he shared early on in training camp about one of his fellow teammates may shock and surprise everyone.

Matthews was asked about the comments made by Matthew Knies to the media about his tennis game and how he beat him. Matthews was quick to point out that Knies lied to the media and that he was shocked by the revelation.

While we're only days into training camp leading up to the 2024-2025 Maple Leafs season it feels as if the mood around the rink is relaxed, but with the understanding that the team has a job to do and must get to work to get it done.

It's unclear at this point what all lines will look like as the days in the season move forward, but to have a team that you genuinely feel is on the same page is refreshing, even if the objective hasn't changed and talk is cheap.

The Maple Leafs may have as good a team as any since the beginning of the Auston Matthews era began, however, it's a long season and speculation is something we shouldn't subscribe to. It's important to understand that this team is and always has been under a microscope and to not win the Stanley Cup which is the ultimate goal will be looked at as a tremendous disappointment.
