Toronto Maple Leafs injury luck to defenceman has continued on Saturday night. This time it was Toronto's newest Leaf Ilya Lyubushkin who was playing his first game with the team tonight.

Late in the second period Rangers forward Matt Rempe laid a heavy hit on Lyubushkin catching him in the head while against the boards. Rempe took quite a few strides before delivering the crushing blow to the Leafs defenceman, who was in a vulnerable position. No penalty was called on the play.

Lyubushkin was seen on the bench talking to the trainers while in obvious pain. He hasn't returned for the third period. Many are speculating his is concussion protocol as a result of the blow to his head.

The Leafs have not provided word on whether or not he'll return to tonight's game, but the longer this goes on the more and more likely it is Lyubushkin will not return.

Not exactly an ideal start for Lyubushkin in his second go around in Toronto. One can only hope for his sake it's nothing serious and the protocol is just a precaution
