The NHL is just a few weeks away from the start of free agency and teams are looking to position themselves in the best possible way for next season. For the Toronto Maple Leafs, the search for their next goaltender has already commenced. With Joseph Woll already under control for next season the Maple Leafs are looking for a replacement for Ilya Samsonov.
After battling through injuries last season Woll found himself in the starter's net when the games mattered most. Unfortunately, with less than a second left in game six the goaltender once again suffered a significant injury. Injuries have continued to be the one thing to prevent Woll from capturing the starters net.
Now the maple leaf search for insurance and as rumors swirl the team is searching for both starters and tandem options. It appears the Maple Leaf search may have gotten a little bit easier as veteran goalie Laurent Brossoit reportedly has serious injury in joining the Leafs.
In 23 games last season Brossoit posted a 15-5-2 record with a goals against average of 2.00 and a .927 save percentage. The 31-year-old also posted 3 shutouts and would be a perfect solution for the Maple Leafs. When the time comes, the Maple Leafs will likely have to act fast as it is expected that Brossoit will be highly coveted.
