Just as the 2022-23 season was getting under way, the Vancouver Canucks received a trade request from Conor Garland. At the time, it was granted, with Garland's agent having permission to talk to other teams. However, there are now reports that something has changed.

Grady Sas states Garland is off the trade block, with Anthony Beauvillier serving as his replacement.

"Sounds like the #Canucks are looking to move Anthony Beauvillier instead of Conor Garland now. [Coach Rick] Tocchet likes Garland's game. With [Teddy] Blueger nearing a return and [Nils] Höglander playing solid, there's a logjam up front."

While Tocchet may like Garland's game, he's not exactly tearing it up on the ice. The decision to keep him around for now is likely more based on what Vancouver will have to eat to trade him. With a cap hit of $4.95 million this season, and two more after, the Canucks will have little choice but to retain salary, and likely a lot of it, to move him. Beauvillier's $4.15 million cap hit that ends at the end of this season is a much more attractive option to potential trade partners.
