Earlier this season, the Vancouver Canucks made a deal with the Calgary Flames that brought twenty-eight-year-old left-handed defenseman Nikita Zadorov further west, and it allowed him to participate in the playoffs and compete for a Stanley Cup.
Although the Canucks only had to give up a third-round pick in 2026 and a fifth-round pick in 2024 that originally belonged to the Chicago Blackhawks, it may be all for naught.
On the 32 Thoughts podcast, Elliot Friedman discussed that he believes that the pending unrestricted free agent may get priced out of Vancouver as he feels that the asking price may be too steep for the team to consider signing him to a contract this summer.
It does not seem far-fetched that Zadorov will be looking for a new team to play for on July 1st, but like everything, we will have to see what happens. Zadorov, his agent, and Vancouver may come to terms on a deal, however, as each day passes, it honestly feels very unlikely.
