The potential trade would have seen Penguins forward Jake Guentzel go to Vancouver, while Canucks forward Elias Lindholm would have gone to the Boston Bruins.
As the deadline came and went at 3 p.m. ET on March 8th, Lindholm remained a member of the Vancouver Canucks organization and on Thursday, in his new 32 Thoughts article, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman revealed that the team had to do some damage control with the Swedish forward and they're not happy his name got out.
Friedman also went on to add that he doesn't believe the three-way deal between Boston, Pittsburgh and the Vancouver Canucks got anywhere close to actually happening before March 8th.
While Lindholm hasn't been terrible, he hasn't played as well as Canucks fans were hoping thus far. Since being dealt to the Canucks from Calgary, Lindholm has appeared in 18 games, putting up seven points (four goals, three assists), four penalty minutes and is a minus-five.
Given the hefty price the Canucks paid to get Lindholm, including Andrei Kuzmenko, prospect Hunter Brzustewicz and a 2024 first-round pick among other assets, it wouldn't have made a lot of sense to flip him so quickly.
The 29-year-old Boden, Sweden native is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and his expected cap hit could push the Canucks away. Do you think Vancouver will re-sign Elias Lindholm? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
