The NHL has punished the Nashville Predators' Michael McCarron after he ran into Vancouver Canucks goaltender raising questions about Preds targeting goaltenders

The Vancouver Canucks have already taken a massive hit in the 2024 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, losing star goaltender Thatcher Demko after the first game to injury. The injury left the Canucks with Casey DeSmith as the new number one, and after a shaky start in his first game, he but on a performance in game 3, stopping 29 of 30 shots in a close 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators to take a 2-1 series lead. It didn't come without some tense moments, though.

At one point in the game, Nashville's Michael McCarron went behind the Canucks net as DeSmith was playing the puck. McCarron did nothing to avoid the netminder.

"Absolute scumbag play from McCarron. Canucks already down a goalie and here he just runs right into DeSmith."

It seems the NHL somewhat agrees, and has announced a $2000 fine for McCarron for goaltender interference. McCarron was given a two-minute minor on the play.

"Nashville's Michael McCarron has been fined $2,000 for goalie interference on Vancouver's Casey DeSmith."

The last thing Vancouver needs is to be left with a goaltender who has no playoff experience whatsoever, and very little in the NHL in general. Luckily, DeSmith got right back up after the play and finished out the game. Game 4 takes place in Nashville Sunday evening.
