Brock Boeser certainly has not had the best year of his career this season, but he remains one of the Canucks' top goal scorers.
Through 54 games he has 18 goals, second on the team only behind Jake Debrusk.
Of course, that number is a bit disappointing after he potted 40 last season, but the entire team has taken a step back this year.
Currently, the team holds the last playoff spot in the Western Conference and would play the Winnipeg Jets in the first round if the playoffs started tomorrow.
With the trade deadline just a week away, they organization has to decide if that is a strong enough position to go for it, or if they should perhaps regroup for next season.
Either way, general manager Patrik Allvin will have a tough choice regarding Brock Boeser.
Allvin has indicated in the past that he intends to re-sign the 28-year-old long term, and it appears as though he has tried to make good on that word.
This is thanks to the reporting of Frank Seravalli, who revealed today that Boeser turned down a five-year offer from the team that carried an 8 million dollar cap hit.
"The Canucks put a 5-year, $40 million offer on the table, but Boeser is looking for more term in this slow-moving game of 'chicken'. Expect it to heat up this week,"
Boeser himself has recently gone on the record saying that he loves Vancouver and is frustrated that he has not re-signed yet, so it is interesting that he turned down such an offer.
The move from his camp has some Canucks fans feeling like the team would be better off trading him before the March 7th trade deadline.
That being said, the team has gone through a lot of drama this season so they likely will not want to make any rash decisions.
Either way, Boeser will certainly be a player to watch in the coming days, and into the summer if he does not get an extension by next Friday.
