Matthew Tkachuk Makes Appearance on The Tonight Show and Speaks on The Canada vs USA Games
Matthew Tkachuk is never one to shy away from the spotlight, and we saw just that last night as he appeared on 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon.
The 4 Nations Face-Off event was a massive game-changer for the sport's development, watched by 10.7 million Canadians on Sportsnet and shattering an ESPN audience record in the U.S.
Days following the finale, its implications are still being felt, apparent in Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk's appearance on 'The Tonight Show' with Jimmy Fallon.
Tkachuk discussed the tournament, the Olympics, and the Panthers' Stanley Cup championship. Of course, one question loomed above all others: his injury.
"Feeling better, just recovering right now," Tkachuk told Fallon. "But the last two weeks, representing my country, was something that I'll never forget."
He competed at the 4 Nations with an undisclosed injury, which gave some concern to the Panthers.
Tkachuk wanted to play at the 4 Nations despite being injured beforehand
Tkachuk stated that he felt it was worth playing through for the opportunity to play for USA Hockey with a brother and compete on this massive stage like this.
"We've played in the All-Star game together, but that's fake," Tkachuk joked when talking about his brother Brady. "It was our first-ever opportunity. We grew up always competing against each other and dreaming about it, eventually one day...
"We always had the dreams of playing with each other, and it finally came true."
The Tkachuk brothers, already NHL stars, garnered even more attention outside the hockey world after viral footage of their heated start to the U.S.-Canada round-robin game.
"[Keith] played 19 years and was one of the best players of all time, one of the best Americans of all time and he unfortunately never got the chance to win the Cup," Tkachuk said. "I don't think he would change a thing, to see one of his boys lift that trophy.
Tkachuk also spoke about his father's emotional reaction to his Stanley Cup win, something Keith Tkachuk, for all his Hall of Fame career, never achieved, as mentioned by Matthew above.
