Towering Defenseman Has Just Been Placed On The Trade Block By The Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have just placed towering defenseman Vincent Desharnais on the trade block as per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman.
The Vancouver Canucks defeated the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-0 in fairly impressive style Thursday night.
The Canucks, though sans their best goaltender in Thatcher Demko to start the year, managed to sit fourth in the Pacific Division and have just seemed to gain some real momentum. Now that Thatcher Demko is back, the heat could be really turned up.
His return can take things to another level, as that could mean this season is more impactful than the current state of the league standings suggests.
If they can follow up with their formula from last season of adding key talent at the trade deadline, then they become an even more serious contender deeper into the playoffs.
In the meantime, another situation took the front seat: apparently, the Canucks are considering trading right-handed defenseman Vincent Desharnais, per NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, a piece that could come with a pretty interesting return.
"Vancouver is trying to find a better fit for Vincent Desharnais. It just hasn't worked out as everyone hoped."
"The Canucks are interesting. There's a little bit of, "Let's see what we look like now that Thatcher Demko and J.T. Miller are back." But it's in Jim Rutherford's DNA to be on the trade prowl. Makes it tougher to predict what they are going to do. And they make calls."
- Elliotte Friedman Vincent Desharnais, who signed a two-year deal worth $2 million AAV last summer, simply hasn't found his footing in the Vancouver system. He's scored just two points in 17 games this season, earning a -4 rating.
At 6-foot-7 and with great mobility considering his size, however, Desharnais is still a depth piece that teams will have interest in. As the March 7 deadline nears, he's definitely a player to keep an eye on.
