The Vancouver Canucks shocked the NHL world on Tuesday when they announced J.T. Miller would be taking an indefinite leave, and now we know the reason behind it.
Despite scoring 16 points in 17 games this season, J.T. Miller has faced scrutiny for his lack of physical play on both ends of the ice, with many believing he needs to be better for this team to make a deep Stanley Cup Playoffs run.
Unfortunately, the team announced some bad news on Tuesday, as it was revealed by the organization that Miller would be taking an extended leave of absence for an indefinite time, citing personal reasons as the factor behind the move.
Given the tough nature of a Canadian hockey market, fans were quick to speculate over why the move was made, and after his partner deactivated her social media accounts, speculation quickly spiralled out of control.
According to Insider Rick Dhaliwal however, that is utter nonsense, and has absolutely nothing to do with the situation at hand.
"Whenever there's a personal leave everybody jumps to conclusions. Alcohol, family related... I get it. Everybody wants the juicy National Enquirer story. Everybody wants the sinister thing. There is nothing sinister going on here. This is a player that needs a reset. Some time and space."
In fact, the answer is a much more simply one according to Patrick Johnston of the Province, who reported the move is simply a way to get Miller some mental clarity after a tough season that's been full of injuries and struggles on the ice.
On the day that this move was announced, the team would play on home ice against the New York Rangers, and according to reports, the fans in attendance threw their support behind the veteran, with J.T. Miller chants ringing throughout Rogers Arena.
There's likely a little more to the current story behind the scenes in Vancouver, but given how respected Miller is, his decision to step away will be respected by the fans and the organization, and we hope that whatever is forcing his hand here, he can get back to 100% physically and mentally and get back to doing what he does best sometime this season.
