With Thatcher Demko's injury, no one knew what the Canucks' season start would look like. After nearly ten games completed, we can confirm that the team struggles to maintain the level they reached last year, but still manages to stay in a comfortable position. They may be sitting at the fourth rank in the Pacific Division with 11 points in nine games, but they have two games in hand on many of their closest division rivals, such as the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, and Los Angeles Kings.
The team will look to bounce back after an embarrassing 6-0 loss to the New Jersey Devils tonight, against the San Jose Sharks. On paper, the Canucks are in a position to easily win the game.
The Sharks, still without the 2024 1st overall pick Macklin Celebrini, are last in their division with a 3-7-2 record. However, the team is on a three-game winning streak and will come in with a lot of energy tonight.
Ahead of the game, the organization decided to make a roster move: they placed Nils Aman on waivers.
Insiders Elliotte Friedman and Frank Seravalli broke the news on X:
Aman, a 24-year-old center from Sweden, was drafted 167th overall in 2020 by the Colorado Avalanche. However, he never played for the Avs and ended up joining the Vancouver Canucks in 2022. Since then, he took part in 115 games in the NHL, and 32 in the AHL. He also took part in five games of last year's playoff run. This season, Aman played four games in Vancouver and tallied two assists.
