After a disappointing elimination in the second round of last year's playoffs against the Stanley Cup champions Florida Panthers, the Bruins were looking to enter the new season on the right foot. Unfortunately, it hasn't been that simple for Jim Montgomery, who went as far as calling out his star players for their performances.
Only two years after their record-breaking season, the Bruins are currently sitting at the eighth rank in the Atlantic Division, tied with the Montreal Canadiens at nine points.
When a team with high standards gets into that situation, the head coach becomes a scapegoat, and it seems to be Jim Montgomery's case.
After leading the team to the playoffs for two straight seasons, it appears the coach could end up paying for the team's poor results. Indeed, the former NHLer and current analyst Bill Lindsay made a big declaration about Montgomery's future in Boston.
According to him, the organization will get rid of Montgomery before Thanksgiving:
This weekend, the Bruins face the Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken in back-to-back games. The team wants to bounce back after their horrible 2-0 and 8-2 losses against the Flyers and Carolina Hurricanes last week.
When a team filled with talent fails to reach expectations, some organizations aren't scared to make big changes to shake things up. Montgomery still has time to turn things around, and he plans on doing it soon. We will see soon enough if his plan works. If so, he probably doesn't have to worry too much about his job for now.
