Vancouver Canucks re-sign piece of their back end Filip Hronek to extension
The Vancouver Canucks secured a major piece of their back end on Tuesday resigning 28 year old Filip Hronek to an 8 year contract extension worth $58 million.
Hronek, 26 is a veteran of 390 games between the Detroit Red Wings & Canucks where he's contributed 35 goals and 170 assists across 390 games. His best season to date without question was this past season where he finished with 48 regular season points and 45 penalty minutes.
The signing of Hronek appeared to be at the top of the Canucks wish list this summer as the steady, heavy defence man came into his own this past season finishing the season with a +33. Along with Quinn Hughes, Hronek gave the Canucks one of the best defensive pairings in the league which was a large reason to why they succeeded as well as they did this past season.
With Hronek under contract until 2032, this gives the Canucks an opportunity to have five of their top six on the back end to be together for at least another two seasons as as Noah Juulsen and Christian Wolanin are signed until the end of 2025. It could very well help them run it back next season and beyond.
