Byron Froese officially leaving the NHL, signs contract overseas

Byron Froese, who has spent a lengthy hockey career between the NHL and AHL, has signed a deal outside of North America for the 2024-25 season

After more than 10 seasons of bouncing around between the AHL and the NHL, Byron Froese seems to be looking for more stability. He has signed a one-year deal with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl of the KHL.

Froese, a 33 year old centre, played 16 games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season, and another 53 with the Henderson Silver Knights of the AHL. Initially drafted in the fourth round by the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009, Froese has also suited up for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, and Calgary Flames during his time in the NHL.

Froese played 56 games with the Leafs in 2015-16, his most in the NHL for one season. In total, he's played 141 regular season NHL games, scoring seven goals and 13 points. Froese also played in 513 games in the AHL, amassing 312 points (142G, 170A).
