The Vegas Golden Knights and Robin Lehner saga may be coming to an end as they may be getting ready to terminate his contract.

The curious case of Robin Lehner and the Vegas Golden Knights continues as camp opened today. The netminder who hasn't played a game in the National Hockey League in 2 years failed to report for his physical today, causing the Golden Knights to start thinking about their options.

According to Frank Seravalli, the process of possibly voiding Lehner's contact has already started. Though it could pose a problem for all the parties involved.

According to Seravalli, Lehner's failure to report means the following as it relates to the Collective Bargaining Agreement:

The NHL-NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that injured players, even those who have been on LTIR for multiple seasons, must undergo a medical exam at the start of every season they are under contract that confirms they are unfit to play. The player can then be placed on the long-term injury list at the team's discretion and seek cap relief, if required.

Because Lehner failed to show up for his physical and there is no denying that or known extenuating circumstances.

The NHLPA would want to avoid the standard that would be set should the Golden Knights try to end Lehner's deal. However the team would be able to add $5 million in cap relief.

We'll follow this closely, but this could have major implications for every other player needing to go on LTIR for an extended period of time.
