It was a bit of a surprise last week when Russian media started reporting that Evgeny Kuznetsov, who has spent his entire NHL career with the Washington Capitals, had requested a trade. Not only that, but Match TV reported the trade request wasn't new and had been first mentioned to Caps management two years ago. On Monday, Kuznetsov was asked about the report, and seemed to deny it all.
"There's nothing really to put the comments (on), to be honest with you."
"You know how it is. It's just people trying to put some whatever they want to get the likes on Instagram or tweet or whatever."
"I spoke to those people, and I said, Where is this coming from?' So .... at this point, there is nothing to even talk about."
Kuznetsov was then asked if he sees himself playing for Washington next season. His answer was yes.
"Yeah. Of course. Both kids grow up here, born here and I'm happy here and I like the guys. I like everything. But you never know. It's not always on me."
Not too many players are willing to talk publicly about a trade request if one was made, so you can take what you like from these comments. Kuznetsov was a first-round pick (26th overall) of the Washington Capitals in 2010. His best season was 2017-18 when he netted 83 points. He's on pace for around 60 this year.
