The Washington Capitals have decided to unexpectedly terminate the contract of one of their defensemen by placing him on unconditional waivers.

The Washington Capitals have placed a defenseman on unconditional waivers in an effort to terminate him under a mutual agreement. The 26-year-old Swede played in his second stint with AHL's Hershey Bears.

Hardy Haman Aktell likely signed overseas

The move signifies that Hardy Haman Aktell most likely signed with an international team.

A fixture of Hershey's 2024 Calder Cup-winning roster, Haman Aktell totaled nine assists in 27 games in the current campaign before being out with a lower-body problem.

Signed to a one-year, two-way deal with Washington off a successful first campaign, he played in one NHL contest and six AHL contests, earning one helper.

He then returned to Hershey, contributing nine points (5g, 4a) in 17 playoff games in defending its championship title.

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound blueliner joined the Capitals in 2023 after three years with Vaxjo Lakers in the SHL. Drafted in 2016 in the fourth round by the Nashville Predators, he did not sign an entry-level deal with them.

Hs is the third blueliner off last year's group to depart, following December's departures of Dmitry Osipov, traded to Utica, and December's waiver-release of Logan Day, who signed with KHL's Traktor Chelyabinsk.

Haman Aktell was going to become a restricted free agent this summer after he'd signed a one-year, two-way extension this past July.

Hopefully a fresh start overseas for Haman Aktell will be exactly what he needs to get his career going in the right direction again.
