Things got heated during last night's game after Minnesota forward Ryan Hartman gave Nikolaj Ehlers an open ice hit close centre ice. Hartman's hit caused Ehlers to fall to the ice heavily and he struggled to get back up and was wincing in pain.
After a moment, Ehlers regained his strength and skated off on his own to the Jets bench. The rest of the Jets roster were not happy with the hit and an immediate scrum ensued. Hartman was jumped and tackled to the ice as the Jets players defended their winger. Check out the replay below for Hartman's hit on Ehlers.
Although he was given a penalty on the play, Hartman's hit did not seem vicious or dirty. It looked like Ehlers just didn't see this hit coming. Hartman was assessed with a double minor for interference and for roughing. His post-game comments suggested that the Jets had targeted Kaprizov in previous games, so Hartman decided to make a statement.
With just seconds left in the game, things get heated once again, this time in retaliation as Neal Pionk cross-Marcus Johansson. He was given a 5 minute major and a game misconduct.
One thing is certain, if this wasn't as close to a playoff game you can get in the regular season, I don't know what is.
