Late in the second period of a highly competitive and physical game between the Ottawa Senators and Philadelphia Flyers, Sens' forward Derrick Brassard suffered a truly awful looking injury.

While crashing the crease on Ottawa's third goal of the night, Brassard's skates got caught up with a defending Flyers player, causing him to fall and bend his ankle to an angle it shouldn't be at.

Brassard looked to be in extreme pain as he laid still on the ice, holding his injured ankle. Applying minimal pressure to it. Judging Brassard's reaction, it looks like he instantly knew his ankle was likely broken.

It's a tough blow to the Senators, and to the overall feeling and intensity of a surprisingly good game between two non-playoff teams. At Brassards age it's difficult to imagine he makes a return from this injury.

After the game head coach DJ Smith described Brassars's injury as simply "not good."
