It's a rough night for Phillip Danault of the LA Kings. He was on the receiving end of a puck to the face after what looked to be a dump in attempt by Mika Zibanejad of the New York Rangers. It was not pretty.
After taking the shot, Danault puts his hands up to his face. As he skates towards his bench, he's met by a trainer with a towel, but not before blood starts gushing onto the ice.
It's not yet clear whether Danault will return tonight. If he does, it will likely be with some sort of cage to protect his face.
Update: the teams have come back out for the second period and Danault is still nowhere to be found.
Update 2: Danault has returned to the game wearing a full shield. Hockey players are warriors.
