Last night's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild was a chippy one, and included a hit many thought would lead to a fine or suspension. We now know that won't be the case.
The hit in question was on the Wild's Jonas Brodin, by Edmonton's Evander Kane. Kane essentially rode Brodin into the boards, causing him to leave the game due to injury. There was no call on the play. Ryan Hartman went after Kane following the hit, and Hartman would end up sitting in the box.
According to Wild reporter Michael Russo, there will be no discipline for Kane as Brodin knew the hit was coming, had plenty of time to protect himself, and didn't do so properly.
"Hearing no discipline coming to Evander Kane likely because Brodin shoulder checks and didn't protect himself despite fact Evander Kane needlessly drives his head into the glass."
"Still, fact this wasn't a Wild power play is outrageous. Fact the refs then fall for Kane timberrrring like a tree in a forest to put the Wild a man down en route to winning goal is even more outrageous
Way Brodin has been playing, this will be a big loss if he's out for #mnwild
