Hockey legend Jaromir Jagr out multiple weeks with lower-body injury
Future Hall-of-Famer Jaromir Jagr is set to be out multiple weeks with lower-body injury as he potentially embarks on his final season of his professional hockey career.
Leagues around Europe are set to begin in a matter of weeks, including the Czech Extraliga where Jaromir Jagr's club Rytiri Kladno, who are entering their fourth consecutive season at the top division in their nation.
However, as Kladno take to the ice on September 18th against Dynamo Pardubice for their 2024-25 season opener, they may have to do so without the future Hall-of-Famer and team owner.
In a post on social media, Jagr announced that he hasn't been playing in any pre-season games because he's dealing with a lower-body injury, specifically a torn hamstring.
Note: the quotes in this story are translated from Czech.
"I have something to tell you. I know you're asking why I'm not playing in any pre-season games. Unfortunately, I was injured. I know that you supported me a lot and because of you I will not give up and I am training anyway. Back as soon as possible. Thank you for your support." Jagr said.
Jagr went on to say that his physiotherapist told him that he could be out of game action for three-to-six weeks, putting his availability for the first four or five games in doubt.
"When I talked to the physiotherapist Pavel Kolář about the fact that I would like to properly train, he warned me not to do anything that my body is not used to.
Of course, I didn't listen to him... I went for a run. Not the sprints I used to do uphill, but normally straight. But I put weights on my ankles and tore my hamstring.
That was about five days ago. Pavel said it would be three to six weeks. We'll see how it heals.
The worst part is that I'm mad at myself. I was preparing, I dropped a lot (of weight) and felt pretty good on the ice. Now it has stopped again, so I'll have to start from the beginning.
But I'm not one to screw it up when I've put so much into it. The very next day I went to do things that didn't hurt. However, skating is very important and I won't be on the ice for three to six weeks. Maybe it won't be that long, we'll see. When I walk, it doesn't hurt.
I'm curious what Pavel will say to me when we meet again." Jagr said in a video on social media.
The 52-year-old is gearing up for what may be his final season of professional hockey, after saying back in June that this will be his last for Kladno for sure, leaving his future uncertain and could lead to his retirement in 2025.
