NHL insider Mollie Walker revealed Jacob Trouba of the New York Rangers played with a nearly debilitating injury.

When it comes to playing playoff hockey, most players are dealing with some sort of an injury by the end. For New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba the injury he was suffering from was one that was debilitating and drastically impacted his play. Despite the injury Trouba refused to use it as an excuse for his play.

At the end of year locker room clear out Trouba shared that he was missing a large chunk of his ankle. Mollie Walker reported the following:

Jacob Trouba played with a broken ankle in playoffs after "losing a big chunk of his ankle" during the season.

Dan Rosen provided some additional context about the injury:

Jacob Trouba broke his ankle late in the regular season, which is why he missed time. It wasn't weight-bearing so he could walk but skating with tight turns didn't feel good. He was limited at times by it, but he emphasized that it is not an excuse for anything.

This injury could explain some of the issues Trouba encountered during the conference Finals. There were times when the defender was caught out of position and appeared to be chasing the game. Suffering. An injury of this magnitude just shows how tough Trouba is and why he was the winner of the Mark Messier Leadership award.
