A scary scene took place at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

During the second period, Lightning defenceman Mikhail Sergachev got tangled up with Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere along the board and appeared to significantly injure his left ankle.

"Mikhail Sergachev is down along the wall and holding his left knee. Alexis Lafreniere got him with a reverse hit as he was trying to play the puck. Sergachev went down right away and he's still not up. They're bringing out a stretcher for him." Dan Rosen said.

Sergachev, who was making his return to Tampa Bay's lineup for the first time since mid-December, was down on the ice for quite a while, was very upset and tearing up. The players called for the medical staff to come out and Sergachev was eventually taken from the game on a stretcher.

An update from the Tampa Bay Lightning will likely come either after tonight's game or tomorrow once they know more information on his injury following examination.
