The Minnesota Wild were in Dallas to face the Stars last night and they spoiled the party by winning 3-2 in overtime. Brock Faber was the one to give his team the win by scoring a spectacular overtime goal:
Earlier in the game, a scary incident involving the Stars veteran Mason Marchment occurred.
Indeed, in the first period, Marchment was hit in the face by a puck in front of the Wild's net.
He was standing there hoping to jump on rebounds or deflect the puck past the goal line, but when Logan Stankoven deflected a shot from Evgeni Dadonov fired at the blue line, the puck went straight on Marchment's face.
Marchment fell on the ice, bleeding, and was assisted by the medical unit. He eventually left the ice and was rushed to a local hospital.
Here's how it all went down:
This is something hockey fans never want to see.
In his post-game press conference, Peter DeBoer, the Dallas Stars head coach, made an update on Marchment, saying it didn't look pretty but he's doing fine. He added that he doesn't know how long he'll be out of the action:
An official update on his status is expected before the Stars' next game. Sometimes, players can return quickly from such injuries, likely playing with a caged helmet to avoid aggravating the injury.
This was the second time that Marchment was hit in the face by a puck this season. Indeed, in November, he had to get stitches after a similar incident but was able to return to the game.
Marchment has been playing an important role in Dallas this season, standing at the 4th spot in the team's scorers rankings, with 27 points.
Hopefully, he'll be able to get back on the ice soon and help his team climb the Central Division rankings.
