Reilly left a game early on November 1st after he took a hit from Wild forward Jordan Greenway that resulted in a head-first collision with the ice. The veteran defenseman remained motionless as the medical staff for both teams rushed onto the ice to help him.
The injury was scary enough that the stretcher actually came out for him at one point. Luckily, in a rare decision, the medical staff elected not to use the stretcher after it came on the ice and Reilly was able to get to the bench with the help of his teammates
Unfortunately, Reilly's status was updated today and not in a good way. Initially, the team listed him as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.
Obviously, he is most likely dealing
with a concussion, but the NHL continues to refuse to be transparent with injuries. Certain teams like the Islanders are particularly bad on this front.
We all saw what happened though so we can come to our own conclusions. Regardless, Reilly was upgraded from day-to-day to out indefinitely today, a sign that he could be out for an extended period of time.
As a matter of fact, Reilly has already met the requirements to be put on IR as he has been out for more than seven days.
At this point, the team could very well put him on LTIR to gain 1.25 million dollars in cap space, although at this point in the season such a move would be rather unnecessary.
Hopefully, Reilly will continue to make a full recovery and we will see him back on the ice soon. Reilly has 18 goals and 122 points in 411 career NHL games split amongst six teams.
