After major trade surprise Eastern Conference team enters sweepstakes for Jakob Chychrun
The Washington Capitals made big news this week trading defender Dimtry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway to the Boston Bruins. Some fans might think that this is a turning point for the Capitals and that they might appear to be in rebuild mode however that might not be the case.
NHL Insider Darren Dreger reports that the Capitals will try to keep their core players and add some players along the way avoiding a complete and total rebuild of the franchise.
The Capitals now have the assets and the cap space to be acquire Arizona defender Jacob Chychrun. Washington now has two first round picks next year, their own and the one they just acquired from Boston. Can Washington use those picks to acquire Chychrun? It does seem possible. Another bright spot for Washington is Chychrun's salary. He still has another two years on his current contract at a very reasonable $4.6 million per season.
Jakob Chychrun's name has been in NHL trade rumors for what seems like an eternity. Actually since the fall of 2021. The Coyotes have held him out of the lineup for the past few weeks to protect Chychrun's health so they can get best return possible for him. You would have to think that he is finally moved by next Friday's trade deadline.
