Saturday night in Toronto, Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs faced off against the Detroit Red Wings. In the 1st period Mitch Marner worked his way into the Red Wings' zone. Marner made a quick move on Jake Walman, on the play Walman looks to get his stick up near Marner's hands.

The near side official though, who had the best view of the play, clearly states there was no infraction on the play. But the trailing official felt otherwise. Walman was issued a 2 minute penalty for hooking on the play.

After the hooking call the referees had a conference about the call. Off the next faceoff, Auston Matthews take a shot and Andrew Copp closes the gap to try and defend. After the shot Copp falls to the ice and the trailing official who blew the first call immediately throws up his arm for an obvious make up call.

Matthews, Keefe and the entire Leafs bench was dumbfounded by the call. To make matters worse, as Walman comes out of the box he sneaks behind the Leafs' defense and scores the games opening goal.
