When the Boston Bruins selected Cole Spicer in the 4th round of the 2022 NHL Draft they knew he had a long road to the NHL. Spicer who was a member of the US Development Program was already committed to the NCAA and would likely need 3 or more years of development before he could even receive an NHL contract offer. Today Spicer's path to the NHL became much more difficult.

While being an athlete is difficult enough, being a student athlete is even more difficult. For Spicer the challenges of being a student have apparently been more than he could overcome.

#NHLBruins    prospect Cole Spicer (#27 on Bruins Benders Top 30) is academically ineligible at Minnesota-Duluth and out for the remainder of the season. 5-4-9 in 17 games for the 19-year-old who was a 2022 4th round pick #GetBent

This decision leaves Spicer without a team to play with and this deep into the season it could be difficult for him to transition to another league. His failure to maintain a proper grade point average shows a distinct lack of responsibility and focus, which on its own likely makes his NHL journey that much more difficult.
