This morning, the Dallas Stars announced the extension of another one of their young franchise players, Roope Hintz.

Hintz, 26 years old, had an incredible breakout year in the 2020-21 season and never looked back. With 37 goals and 72 points last year, pacing over a point per game again this year, Hintz has proven he'll be an offensive force in this league for some time.

Hintz will remain in Dallas for 8 years, for a cap hit of $8.45M. The signing comes shortly after his linemate Jason Robertson, who endured a reportedly contentious negotiations process to secure a 4 year contract with a cap hit of $7.75M. In addition, the Stars have locked up Heiskanen and Oettinger for the next few seasons.

GM Jim Nill is clearly prioritizing retaining the young talent developing in the Stars organization right now. In combination with their older stars, Benn and Seguin, the Stars have a uniquely deep team, and may even be a dark horse Stanley Cup contender this year.
