Of all the remaining restricted free agents available, Jason Robertson is hands down the best. Last season in just his sophomore year he scored 41 goals and added 38 assists for 79 points. Robertson, 23, played out the final year of his entry level deal and has been looking for a new contract ever since.

Unfortunately the Dallas Stars haven't been willing to meet his demands. So much so that Dallas Stars owner, Tom Gaglardi, openly dragged Robertson for his ask earlier this summer. In his comments Gaglardi made it known that Robertson was looking for approximately $7,000,000 per season. Which is hard to consider an unreasonable request if he's willing to sign long-term.

With training camp already underway Robertson has not reported to Dallas. He hasn't practiced with the team and Pierre LeBrun reported today both parties are in constant contact, but are not close to a deal.

Now word has surfaced that the Buffalo Sabres are aggressively pursuing a potential trade for Robertson.

According to sources, the #Sabres have serious interest in acquiring RFA F Jason Robertson from the Dallas Stars

Robertson, 23, has had contract talks stall with the Stars over the past few months, and the Sabres have recently kicked tires on the situation with serious intent.

Trying to complete a trade might be the best course of action for the Sabres, but with available cap space they could easily turn to an offer sheet as real option. The Sabres have over $20,000,000 in cap space while the Stars only have $6,500,000.

This situation could get very interesting if the Stars aren't willing to open their pocket books and pay their best players.
