The Montreal Canadiens have been interested in locking down Jake Allen to an extension since July 13th. The two parties have worked together to find a happy medium. It was reported that Allen was interested in a long-term extension while the Canadiens wanted something more short term.
This morning the Habs announced that the two parties have finally come to an agreement on a new deal.
Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced today that the team has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with goaltender Jake Allen (until the end of the 2024-25 season). The deal has an average annual value of $3.85 million.
Allen, 32, played in 35 games last season for Montreal. Posting a .905 save percentage, a 3.30 goals against average and a record of 9-20-4. He also posted 2 shutouts last season.
Allen has played for two teams in his NHL career, playing a combined 353 games. In his career he has a 168-126-35 record. This deal will keep Allen in Montreal for 3 more seasons in total and should walk the Canadiens to freedom from the contract around the time they're ready to compete.
