Buffalo Sabres poised to bring back a classic

The Buffalo Sabres are bringing back a classic sweater for 2022-2023, the "Goathead".

A fan favorite which was worn from 1996 to 2006, which was worn by players like Dominik Hasek, Rob Ray, and Thomas Vanek. The iconic jersey was worn in the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999 against the Dallas Stars.

They were originally unveiled in 1996 at an open practice at Memorial Auditorium, the logo itself was designed by a Vermont company that designed snowboards primarily.

«What we're trying to do is revive interest in Sabres hockey,» Sabres president Doug Moss said at the time. «To be honest, I think this town could use something to be excited about.»

Along with losing the Stanley Cup Finals to a controversial Brett Hull goal, the Sabres would revert back to their classic colors.

The next season they would unveil the uniform foul, the "Buffaslug" which is popular with jersey collectors to this day.
