Calgary Flames get some great news from the American Hockey League
Today the Calgary Flames received some great news from the American Hockey League. It was announced that the American Hockey League's Board of Governors has approved the relocation of the Flames' AHL franchise, the Stockton Heat, from California to Calgary.
The Stockton Heat have been the Flames' AHL affiliate since 2015. Calgary purchased the city's previous long-standing team, the Stockton Thunder, and after 10 years of playing, the city's hockey team was relocated to New York. The AHL then moved the Heat to Stockton in its place.
Stockton Heat General Manager Brad Pascall shared the following:
Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation have appreciated the partnership with the City of Stockton since our arrival in 2015. We especially would like to say thank you to the Heat fans who loyally supported the team and continue throughout the 2022 AHL Playoffs.
The Heat played the 2020-21 season in Calgary due to the COVID-19 pandemic and border travel restrictions. According to HockeyDB, the Heat had the lowest average home attendance in the AHL this season at 1,713. They had the second-best points percentage in the Western Conference at .713.
