Calgary Flames provide health update on Chris Tanev after he's taken to hospital after blocking shot
There was a scary injury last night during Montreal's shootout victory of Calgary last night. In a game filled with penalties, both teams' penalty killing units saw a lot of ice time. While Montreal was on the power play, Calgary defenseman Chris Tanev took a shot in the side of the head. On a five on three power play, Tanev courageously blocked Nick Suzuki's one timer.
As soon as Tanev absorbed the shot he immediately fell to the ice and did not move for several moments. It was frightening moment.
You don't want to see any player experience that. Everyone at the Bell Center went silent. You could sense all players from both teams were concerned for Tanev's health. After receiving attention from the Calgary trainer, Tanev was assisted off the ice from his teammates.
The Flames provided the following update late last night:
Injury Update For Chris Tanev: Following a visit to local hospital, all tests have shown negative and he has been cleared to travel with the team back to Calgary. He will be reevaluated tomorrow.
This was a scary injury for sure and it was good to see Tanev get up after taking such a shot. Tanev is a true leader for this Flames team. He is well known for fearlessly blocking shots. Calgary announced that Tanev did go to the hospital where all his test results turned up negative, which is good to hear. Tanev was able to return to Calgary with the rest of his teammates and he will be seen by medical staff when he gets home.
Still, you would expect that Tanev will miss some time. Hopefully Tanev will get some time to heal and recuperate. Calgary will miss not having him in the lineup but they have to be relieved that Tanev is even able to return with his teammates back to Calgary.
