Philadelphia Flyers fan favourite expected to be bought out
The Philadelphia Flyers were supposed to be better this year. They went into the summer looking at adding pieces to compete for the playoffs. Over the last two seasons they've added John Tortorella, Tony DeAngelo, Cam Atkinson, and Ryan Ellis.
Rather than just blow it up for a rebuild, they delayed the inevitable and may have to blow it up soon anyways. The first casualty of this may be fan favourite Kevin Hayes:
According to Larry Brooks, Hayes who was benched early in the season, will "inevitably" be an eventual buyout. Hayes cap hit or $7,400,000 per year and his deal may not be moveable without significant retention on the Flyers' end.
Hayes has been his best self this season, with 28 points, but he has yet to reach his 49-point career high, which he reached in New York in 2018-2019.
If Kevin Hayes was bought out this summer he would remain on the Flyers cap for 6 more seasons. The question is will Chuck Fletcher maintain the same course, with a team that is limited in capabilities and talent?
