Calgary Flames reportedly shopping one of the big name players they received in the Matthew Tkachuk trade
Even Brad Treliving acquired Mackenzie Weegar and Jonathan Huberdeau in exchange for Matthew Tkachuk, it was universally viewed as a massive win for the franchise. Unfortunately for the Flames that deal hasn't worked out the way they'd planned. After the trade the Flames signed both players to massive 8-year extensions.
But those extensions haven't stopped the Flames from possibly having some buyer's remorse. According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period , the Flames have already begun shopping Weegar to teams around the league.
I have strong reason to believe the Flames have considered moving defenceman Mackenzie Weegar. They've denied it, and it doesn't sound like a trade is presently imminent. But multiple well-placed league sources have not only heard Weegar's name floating around but have informed me the Ottawa Senators are a team that has expressed interest in acquiring him.
It will be interesting to see if anything comes from this deal, but it would show a lot of desperation for the Flames to make a pivot so quickly.
