Moments ago, Mercyhurst University released a statement announcing that Carson Briere has been removed from their men's hockey team.
Carson Briere, son of former NHLer and Flyers GM Daniel Briere, was seen weeks ago throwing an unoccupied wheelchair down a flight of stairs in a bar. It was such a reckless, selfish, and arrogant act that was scrutinized widely on social media, eventually leading Mercyhurst to take action.
It's the second time Briere has been dismissed from a university hockey team. In November of 2019, Briere was expelled from the Arizona State University hockey program, with only a weak explanation of violating team rules.'
The owner of the wheelchair thrown by Briere was fine, but required assistance from the bar staff to move around afterwards. Social media efforts raised the owner thousands to replace the chair, to which she pledged to other disabled people in need.
