Coaches hesitant about joining the Dallas Stars because of status of General Manager
Usually, head-coaching vacancies in the National Hockey League are one of the most coveted positions on a hockey team. As soon as a coach is fired, there's always more waiting to take their place. I say usually because that doesn't seem to be the case with the coaching vacancy the Dallas Stars currently have, in fact, it's the exact opposite
According to Sportnet's Elliotte Friedman, Dallas is having a hard time filling the hole behind their bench because Stars General Manager, Jim Nill only has one year left on his deal.
Coaching is one of the positions within a hockey team that more often than not come with a little bit more job security, if Jim Nill either doesn't receive a contract extension from Dallas after next season, or he decides to retire, a new GM would come into the stars organization which would likely mean they clean house and hire their own bench boss.
This puts any coach on uneven footing if they take the Dallas coaching job. While I can understand the position of not wanting to take a temporary job, the onus is on the Dallas organization as a whole to provide their next head coach with some sort of job security, otherwise, they will struggle to find a coach willing to take the role
