After an abysmal start to the season that saw the Edmonton Oilers go 3-9-2 to start the year, everyone knew the first person to go would be Head Coach Jay Woodcroft. While that news broke a little bit ago, it seems like the Oilers already have their sights set on a new coach.

According to former National Hockey League player Ryan Whitney, the Oilers are expected to announce their new head coach shortly and it's none other than Kris Knoblauch; take a look.

I'm hearing that Hartford Wolf Pack coach Kris Knoblauch is the new coach of the Edmonton Oilers. McDavid former coach in junior.

Knoblauch coached McDavid when he was in junior with the Erie Otters so there's some familiarity there to be sure. Could this be a case of McDavid hand picking his next coach? It sure seems that way.

Knoblauch was most recently the head coach of the AHL's Hartford Wolfpack, and is the 2nd AHL promotion for the Oilers.

Hartford Wolf Pack head coach Kris Knoblauch will assume head coaching duties with the Oilers & will be joined by assistant coach Paul Coffey.

Of note: Edmonton legend Paul Coffey joins the Oilers as well as an assistant coach.
