Former NHL goaltender passes away at 52-years-old
We have some sad news to report on in the hockey world on Sunday morning.
According to reports out of Czechia, former NHL goaltender Roman Cechmanek has passed away at the age of 52.
"Sad news: memorable #NHL goaltender Roman Cechmanek dead at 52.
Drafted at age 29. Next season 2000-01: Vezina runner-up to Dominik Hasek, All-Star and 4th in Hart voting.
25 shutouts in 4 seasons! (Consider: Vasilevskiy has 32 in 9.)
And he loved to stop pucks with his head." Frank Seravalli said.
Cechmanek spent four seasons in the National Hockey League, three with Philadelphia and one with LPS Angeles. In 212 games, he had a record of 110-64-28, with a 2.08 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and 25 shutouts.
In 1998, Cechmanek served as the backup to Dominik Hasek for Czechia, known as the Czech Republic at the time, as they won the Olympic Gold medal.
Our thoughts are with Cechmanek's friends and family at this difficult time.
