The Detroit Red Wings and their captain Dylan Larkin have been discussing a new contract for some time now, but talks have hit a snag as the negotiations have hit the public eye.

Andy Strickland reports that Larkin is hoping to get an annual salary of $9 million on his next deal, but General Manager Steve Yzerman has made their best offer in the $8 million range.

Strickland adds that many are convinced Larkin won't accept a trade to another club without an extension in place and he reportedly in no rush to leave Detroit. Larkin has a full no-trade clause in his contract.

Larkin is having another solid season in the Motor City scoring 20 goals and 50 points in 51 games.

The 26 year old is in the final year of a five-year, $30.5 million contract. While his salary cap hit is $6.1 million, he is earning $5.25 million in actual dollars this season. He also owns a full no-trade clause.

With the way things are going there going be a messy divorce in the future for Detroit and their captain. With Larkin able to walk himself directly to free agency, this could certainly hamper the Red Wings forward momentum, especially if they're unable to recoup any assets for their Captain.
