The New York Rangers are looking to fill out their top 6 at the trade deadline. Their 2nd season with Gerard Gallant has shown their apparent lack of depth and offensive capabilities that wasn't so obvious then.
They're looking to add scoring depth and with their kid line being broken up and paired with Mika Zibanejad, they could still use some help.
According to Frank Seravalli, the person who is the target is the San Jose Shark Forward Timo Meier.
Meier is a great addition to any team that can make the move, despite the hefty cost, considering he will be an RFA and require a qualifying offer of $10 Million dollars. With Jimmy Vesey becoming a staple of the Rangers' offense again, it's obvious that Meier would fit somewhere on the 1st or 2nd lines, in Gallants offense and Vesey would be put in a 3rd line role.
With Chris Kreider taking a step back after a career year last season, a 76-point forward would be a welcome addition anywhere and Chris Drury would be a fool to sneeze at him. It isn't a far-fetched idea that a few of the youngsters in the system may need a change of scenery.
