Pavel Datsyuk Dashes Red Wings Fan's Hope with Recent Comments About his Future in Hockey
Detroit Red Wings legend Pavel Datsyuk recently made some comments about his future in hockey that has some fans disappointed.
Pavel Datsyuk is not only one of the greatest Detroit Red Wings legends of all time, but he is also one of the greatest NHL players of all time in general.
He is beloved by fans around the league, even younger fans who have adopted parts of his game into their play styles.
This summer, the legend was finally admitted into the Hockey Hall of Fame after his playing career ended.
Now, Datsyuk finds himself in the next leg of his career, as he has joined Avtomobilist of the KHL in a coaching role.
The former NHLer has gone on the record saying that he is very grateful for his role with the team and is happy to be returning to the rink for work every day.
"I work for the Avtomobilist club, for which I am very grateful. They trusted me and allowed me to do what I love, I like it. It's not that easy, obviously I'm still learning.
I like being in the arena with the guys, being part of the club and helping it. I will continue to do this with pleasure."
Many Red Wings fans were probably hoping that Datsyuk would return to North America to be a coach for the team at some point.
While that is still possible, it certainly sounds like it won't be happening anytime soon.
Datsyuk did reveal that he misses his time in Detroit, but added that he is happy with his new role.
"I miss Detroit but now I have job, I'm hockey player development back at home. I wanted to see how this goes, wanted more experience and more study from one of the best teams."
Earlier this season, another famous Russian former Red Wing was linked to the team as some thought that Sergei Fedorov could be in line to be the team's next head coach.
Obviously that has not happened yet, but who knows, perhaps both Fedorov and Datsyuk could return one day to help reestablish the Red Wings as a powerhouse from behind the bench.
