The San Jose Sharks are off to a fun start in 2024/25, and now they've made a very intriguing trade with the division rival Anaheim Ducks.

With the 2025 NHL trade deadline less than two months away, speculation and rumours are heating up in the NHL, with some big moves expected in the coming weeks, including a potential J.T. Miller trade that has been rumoured for quite some time.

On Wednesday however, a smaller scale trade has been made between two divisional rivals, with the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks coming together for an intriguing player swap.

According to reports, first from The Athletic's Eric Stephens, the Sharks are sending former second-round pick Justin Bailey to the Ducks, while they will be getting 25-year old winger Pavol Regenda back in return.

In Regenda, the Sharks will be getting a 25-year old with 19 games of NHL experience under his belt, and while the undrafted winger is yet to thrive at that level, he's been solid in the AHL, posting 50 points in 90 games with the San Diego Gulls over the last two seasons.

For the Ducks, they'll be getting a former second-round pick in Bailey, who has played 141 NHL games dating back to the 2015/16 season, but with just 23 points in that time, it's unclear what his future at the NHL level looks like in Anaheim.

Ultimately, this is a trade that's very low risk for both teams, as neither are taking on huge contracts and are betting on a change of environment for both players resulting in a massive improvement, but more likely than not, this is just an AHL swap with neither play likely to get an extended look at the NHL level this season.
