Edmonton Oilers reportedly have an embarrassing plan to try and fix their goaltending
The Edmonton Oilers are off to the toughest start of the Connor McDavid Era. The Oilers currently sit with a record of 5-12-1 and remain well outside of a playoff spot. With American Thanksgiving now in the books, historically teams outside of the playoff picture today remain out of the playoffs come April.
The Oilers biggest issue this season has been their inability to get a save from their goaltenders. The Oilers have already demoted Jack Campbell to the American Hockey League, while Stuart Skinner has also struggled mightily. Reports have stated the Oilers have scoured the trade market unsuccessfully for a solution.
Now according to Chris Johnston of TSN the Oilers are reportedly looking at a surprising option in goal, and are looking at just a single game sample size to justify it. After posting an .820 save percentage through his first three games, Campbell posted a shutout. Well according to Johnston that might be enough for the Oilers to turn the net back over to Jack, as the team is looking for internal fixes.
One option to consider as well is Jack Campbell who has been down in the AHL playing in Bakersfield coming off a shut-out, is a potential option to come back up and rejoin the Oilers, so maybe, at least initially here in the short-term, that's the kind of move they might make to try and spark a better outcome.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, but turning back to Campbell seems like exactly the sort of move Ken Holland would resort to. In his career with the Oilers, Campbell has posted a .886 save percentage and a 3.53 goals against average. With tensions running high in Edmonton, whatever happens next better be the right move or the Holland will definitely receive his walking papers.
