Dangerous hit have always been in the game of hockey, but at what point will the National Hockey League actually take steps to make sure they don't happen anymore? They've said they were going to work on it for years and yet, dangerous hits seem to be on the rise and it's only the start of the preseason schedule.

Last night the Seattle Kraken faced off against the Calgary Flames and with seconds to go In the first period and the score tied at 1, Flames prospect Jakob Pelletier streaks in across the blue line and gets hit from behind by Seattle forward Marián Studenič; take a look.

Jakob Pelletier is shaken up after he took this hit from behind. He went down the tunnel to the locker room.

This hit drew a crowd as things got heated with Pelletier down on the ice. When the dust settled Studenič was given a 5-minute major and a game misconduct and made his way to the locker room and did not return.

While Pelletier does cut back when he enters the zone on this play, there's absolutely no reason for Studenič to make this hit when he can clearly see the opposing players numbers.

After the game, Flames head coach Ryan Huska only said Pelletier would be evaluated today and nothing more. Although it appears to be a rather serious upper body injury.

Hopefully it's not as bad as it looked.
